Big news again for the NSW planning system. The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure have released another suite of strategic planning documents aimed at reducing duplication, speeding up rezonings, and providing greater certainty for infrastructure delivery and housing supply.
🔎Now on exhibition:
• A New Approach to Strategic Planning: Discussion Paper
• The Draft Sydney Plan
• The Draft Statewide Policy for Industrial Lands
✨ Key changes proposed:
• Streamlining the number of regional plans down to just four
• Better coordinated growth and infrastructure to focus investment where it’s needed most
• Greater flexibility, allowing parts of regional plans to be updated quickly as new data emerges
• Supporting councils to develop and adopt Affordable Housing Contributions Schemes more efficiently
• Introducing “alternative uses” for locally significant industrial land, enabling compatible non-industrial uses following an alternative use assessment
These reforms signal a significant shift in how strategic planning, infrastructure coordination, and land-use flexibility will be delivered across NSW.
