ADW Johnson was awarded the contract to update Bega Shire Council’s adopted structure plan for the Bega ‘Urban Release Area’ and preparation of a planning proposal following a competitive process involving 13 other consultancies. The purpose of the project was to facilitate the rezoning of the site from rural and conservation zoned land to urban land suitable for a new local centre and residential land. ADW Johnson was also responsible for managing technical studies to inform the planning proposal (bushfire, flooding, traffic and LUCRA).
The project, which covers more than 279 ha will zoned land to be capable of delivery of 2,230 dwellings, two neighbourhood centres, a commercial centre, 18ha of open space. The proposal will enable Council to levy contributions towards affordable housing. Following a briefing session from ADW Johnson staff, the planning proposal was unanimously endorsed by Bega Shire Council and subsequently received Gateway Determination from the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and was exhibited late 2025.
